Millennium Memory Care at Monroe
I started playing my instrument, but after each song, the audience appeared focused somewhere else, as if I weren't there. I thought, "Is there any point of playing if they aren't paying attention?" Despite my doubts, I continued to play but part of me felt I should stop early; I ended up not playing one of my usual songs. Eventually, I got a reaction from one of the residents who asked me questions such as "When did I start", or "What made me interested in the viola". When I left, I started to regret not playing the last song because even though they weren't paying attention, it's still the only entertainment they would get for a while. Next time, I vowed I would make it through the whole program regardless of who my audience is.
Millennium Memory Care at Monroe was the seventh location where I played. Initially, I thought it was going to be an ordinary performance, however, I was mistaken. When my dad and I entered, I noticed that this wasn't just a standard assisted living center, it was for much older people. I immediately noticed that some of them struggled to communicate and hear, which motivated me to play even better for them. Setting up was quite awkward because usually I get asked questions, or there is random chatter, but neither was present.
